Diabetology & Endocrinology
Endocrinology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the endocrine system and its secretions called hormones, primarily dealing with endocrine organs, which include the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, ovaries and testes, and pancreas.
An Endocrinologist will investigate and treat conditions such as diabetes, bone disorders and growth disorders.
Diabetology is the branch of medicine dedicated to the study and treatment of diabetes mellitus. It can be considered a specialised field of endocrinology. Here at the Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre we can not only diagnose, but also conduct appropriate tests and treatment tailored to the individual needs of patients and monitor their progress to prevent long term complications. Diabetes is managed with a combination of diet, lifestyle changes, medication and insulin. Our expert multidisciplinary team can advise and support patients throughout the process.
